UNIT ASSESSMENTS
The preassessment asks students to share their preliminary thoughts on the topic of humor in society. These questions are linked to the key principles of the unit to determine the level at which students are currently thinking about these topics.
The information gathered may help the teacher make instructional decisions about the pacing, resources, and scaffolding students may require; it will certainly provide a baseline for assessing student growth in their sociological thinking as the unit progresses.
There are periodic assignments and research tasks given to students throughout the unit to check for student understanding. Conceptual understandingâassessed through the use of rubrics, conferencing, and discussionâdocuments student growth. Proficiency of skills and evidence of personal growth are demonstrated as students are asked to work as practicing sociologists by conducting research and presenting their findings.
